Adults have blue-grey upperparts
Black or dark gray crown
White face and underparts
Short tail short with black outer tail feathers which have a white band obvious in flight
Undertail coverts and sides rusty.
Long bill either straight or slightly upturned

Notes
The White-breasted Nuthatch is usually a permanent resident. It stores food for winter in crevices behind loose tree bark during the autumn. Pairs seem to remain together year-round. They are familiar sights at bird feeders.
