Located
The United States from New Jersey west to southern Kansas and south to Florida and Texas; there is a gap in the range at high altitudes in the Appalachian Mountains where they are replaced by their otherwise more northern relative, the Black-capped Chickadee

Black cap and bib with white cheeks, grey back, and dull white underparts
Short dark bill
Food
Primarily insects during the summer; also seeds and berries during the winter
Size
Length: 5-6 in (12-15 cm )
Wingspan: 6-8 in (16-21 cm)
Weight: 1/3 to 1/2 ounce (9-14 grams)
Notes
The Carolina Chickadee is a permanent resident, not usually moving south. In severe winter weather they are able to lower their body temperatures to induce an intentional state of hypothermia called torpor. During this time they are awake but unresponsive; they should not be picked up and handled, as the stress of being held may cause their death.
